ExpliciteArt.com has a lot to offer, but it too suffers from the many problems found at almost all porn sites. The good news: The brains behind this site is a man named John. He is from France and most of the language in the videos is in French, but they're subtitled in English so that you know what's being said. Many of the models found on this site are extraordinary. There's some real beauties. There's a few cuties. There's some fine looking 'girls next door' types. Then there's the Cyndi Lauper types ("she's so unusual"). There are 465 models on the site, and each has multiple shoots. Once you've found one, you're presented with all their shoots and videos to choose from. There's real lovelies. Its a good mix! You'll find the variety very satisfying. There's not much going on in the way of a search engine. You can name a gal to find her again, or you can choose from two handfuls of 'types of action'. THe engine is adequate, but I'd like to see a little more types listed. John uses photo strobes and photo lighting equipment. You'll not see any indoor scenes lit with incandescent light that make the photographs orange in color, unless that's what John wanted for a shoot. The light is white thanks to this, and the colors pop nicely in both the videos and the photos (many of which are frames out of the videos). Many of the shoots are very, very good. They are creative and unusual. There's some really kinky shoots. There's a few tame (softcore) shoots. The bulk of the material falls somewhere in the middle. Nothing to complain about in this area. For the photoshoots, you get handed 150 shots to view. For the viideos, they average about 10 minutes long, and many have very creative story lines. Photos range in size. Most of the zips contain images that are a whopping 3000x2000 pixels. However, when viewing, you can download from the java created window and then images are 1800x1200, so if you want to edit on the fly instead of downloading the zip file, you'll be stuck with smaller images that will not allow you to crop an image deeply. Also on the bad side is that the thumbnails are very small and there is no option to increase their size. This makes viewing the thumbnails very difficult. An option to set the size would be greatly appreciated so that you can get an idea of what's going on in a photo. The thumbnails, frankly, are too small to see even on a 1080p monitor (1920x1080), but the most popular monitors are now 1920x1280 in resolution. Now the bad news. Like most porn sites, very little editing is done for the photo shoots. You have to decide which 75 of the 150 shots are keepers. That's a lot of work! One shoot can take hours to decide. 75-80 photos seem to be the ideal number for any shoot. You'll be deciding which to toss and which to keep. This is NOT an easy task. As stated before, the scene is lit with pro equipment, so there's not a lot of color correction needed. However, all the shoots are single camera shoots, and that camera is NOT mounted on a tripod. Any slight movement of the camera is picked up and it's very distracting. Observe any TV show or movie. The camera stays still and the actors move around the scene. Also in 'legitimate' film, most are made with two or three cameras shooting simultaneously, then the tape or film is edited and spliced together. This is not found on Explicite Art.com, nor on any other porn site that I know of! This does nothing to lend any credibility to the porn industry. Nothing! Nearly every porn site I've been to (and there's many) uses a single camera and that camera moves. IT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO MOVE! The actors tell the story. The camera is only the vehicle to get the story to the audience. Some of the videos, but not all, suffer from zooming in and out and in and out until you feel like you're on a roller coaster ride and are going to lose your cookies. This is bad! WHEN WILL THE PORN INDUSTRY LEARN HOW TO HANDLE A CAMERA? No porn site has photography that doesn't do at least one thing wrong, and typically all sites do many things wrong with the camera and lighting. Want to complain to the crew? Hurrah! There's a Contact Us page. However there is no link to contact them by email to explain your frustration. More bad news: The site is powered by Java and javascript. This is not good. Once a page is loaded, the java applets keep running in the background, and the code causes your browser to crash often. Too often. Like, every other photo set or every other video. This also causes your browser's 'Back' button to lose it's previous page references. This also creates unnecessary slowness of the site -- pages are slow to load. Moving from image to image is slowed by the code finding the next image to load in a photo set. However, there is a good side to this -- the images can be shown in an automatic slide show. But this can also be done without the use of Java, or by using minimal javascripts using PHP code. Conclusion: The site has better than average material thanks to proper lighting and some very beaturiful and some oh, so unusual gals. Scenes are shot in white light using spot lights and with umbrella lighting or bounced off of reflectors. Gone are those shots that are overly orange due to the use of incandescent lights. And some of the shoots use colored gels over the lghts, so you'll see shoots done in deep blue and magenta. These are dreamy and very creative. The gals are mostly better than average and very lovely and very often talented. The search function is weak but adequate and there's plenty of room for improvement. However, what you'll find on Explicite Art.com is different than most other sites. It's a little off center toward the good site. Explicite offers something different in it's material. John, our photographer, has a great eye and very creative ideas. The bad thing about this site is that it's just like every other porn site out there. The camera is not mounted on a tripod. The camera operator, at times, will have his/her hand on the zoom ring and make you dizzy. IF JUST ONE site would dedicate themselves to making photo shoots and videos like you see in 'legitimate' film making, and has the material as good as Explicite's, THAT porn site would rule the roost in sales. I dunno about you, but I'm tired of editing out the bad shots. I'm tired of fixing tilted shots. I'm tired of removing overly large logos from the corners of porn photos. And I'm tired of doing my own editing of images, like removing the ones that destroy the flow, and even altering the ones that have poor color balance or are overly saturated (a cheap trick to hide skin blemishes). JUST WHEN WILL THE PORN INDUSTRY GET A CLUE AND STOP MAKING THE CONSUMER DO A LOT OF THE WORK THAT THE SITE SHOULD BE DOING? The industry only hurts itself. It saves a few pennies instead of doing all that work and then outselling the rest. If just ONE site could get it right, that site would have so much traffic, it couldn't handle it all without buying an Internet Fast Lane. THAT site would make millions and even billions! I'll be generous. I'm gonna rate this site an 8 out of ten stars, simply because of the ingenuity of their story lines and the use of proper lighting equipment. Also, the diversity from tame to steaming HOT shoots is very good, but it's PHOTO STORIES THAT I"M BUYING. I want the product that I'm buying edited. If ANY site wants to show me the cutting room floor, fine. Name the cutting room floor, "The Cutting Room Floor", but present me with a good flowing shoot that makes sense and doesn't use up MY time. We're not being paid to cut photos out of a shoot. We're paying for this to be done for us. Explicite Art is a great start. It's better than many, but it needs (like so many other sites) to lose this notion that the customer is the one to edit out the bad shots. Less is more. Do the editing for the consumer. Stop making us work for free. It is NOT fun to weed out the shots that hamper and even destroy a photo shoot's flow! |
