Sugar Instant

The first thing that jumped out at me about the membership area at Sugar Instant was how much it reminded me of my own homepage at Netflix. Which meant I could effortlessly sift through all the latest and greatest titles or, if my mood called for something rather specific, browse by genre instead. Where it strays the most from the Netflix setup, though, is that it has user reviews of movies. And with running times here often exceeding the 200 minute mark, a carefully written review can save all you fans of edging an awful lot of wasted time and orgasms. By the way, the whole minute thing will actually be important later on, but before we get into that, let's take a moment to talk about their content.

The last time I visited this site, they boasted 543 different studios. They now list only 163 on their website. I suspect that they still, in fact, have movies from those other studios, but that they have simply narrowed down the list on their website to include those that they offer streaming content from. But even the abridged list reads like a who's who of the kings of porn production from the '80s onto the present. Juggernauts like Digital Sin, Evil Angel, and Platinum X Pictures are just a few that can be found amongst the ranks.

As such, I suppose it is no surprise that they have managed to build such a diverse collection of killer adult films. At the time of this review there are 133757 scenes online and available for streaming, and that's not counting all of the DVDs in their warehouse that are for rental and purchase only. One thing I found particularly impressive about this collection was that they have managed to cover a lot of niche kinks. For instance, there were 161 transgender flicks, 51 BDSM, 13 glory hole, 95 older men, and even 7 midget flicks. And that's just scratching the surface of their over 150 categories.

Another sign that this site is making a good effort to keep up with the times is that they have added a virtual reality section. There are currently 43 different VR scenes to choose from, and they all seem to be live streams 100% exclusive to the site. What's more, they feature notable porn stars like A.J. Applegate, Jenna Sativa, and Kimber Woods. I would have liked to have seen some higher resolutions than 1080p, but if you give me an excuse to use my overpriced VR gear, you won't see me complaining.

Getting back to all that minutes business, if paying a flat rate for streaming isn't your thing, you also have the option of going the pay-per-view route. There are several different packages for purchasing minutes, ranging from 15 minutes for $3.99 all the way up to 5,800 minutes for $499 and dozens of variations in between. But paying $9.99 for 60 minutes versus just paying a flat rate of $9.99 for unlimited monthly streaming seems like a real no-brainer to me. Unless, of course, there is a streaming-only movie that you absolutely must watch.

They also offer the option to download films and own them for life, but you will have to fork over some more dough for that. Prices range and this seems to be dependent on the popularity of the film and the playback quality in which it is available. To give you an idea, most of the 480p and 360p movies I encountered were available for download-to-own at the price of $6.99. The 1080p movies shot all the way up to the, in my opinion rather steep, price of $11.99.

You can purchase the DVD, too, when it's still in stock and not discontinued(which seemed to be the case more often than not), for somewhere in the range of $11.99 to $21.99. So, if you are a collector looking to update your old collection, that option is always on the table, too.

If this site has one major flaw, it is definitely its layout. I know I mentioned earlier in the review that it reminded me of Netflix, and alluding to the fact that that was a good thing, and I will still stand by those words. Hell, in many ways, it is an awesome thing. But it also shares a few negative aspects in common with the Netflix layout, too. Namely being that, without any form of timestamps, it is difficult to tell how often they are adding new content.

I must admit that I was also more than a bit disheartened to see that there were only 11 movies listed under the 4k HD category, and perhaps even downright annoyed to see there was no regular HD category at all, which makes it all but impossible to pin down just how many scenes are full-fledged high-definition. You'd think that would be a top priority on a streaming movie site, wouldn't you?
